Midland Basset Open Show
Afternoon Show
Judge: Mr Ian Sexton
I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge their open show, I enjoyed myself very much and after the lack of shows due to the current situation it was refreshing to get out and do what we enjoy doing for a change. The weather was kind, and the venue was perfect, although I understand some minor injuries were sustained during the set up! There was a relaxed atmosphere around the ring and exhibitors were ‘chilling’ in their gazebo’s, it was very ‘Irish Circuit like’. It was first time out for some of the younger exhibits and they were a little unsettled but I am sure they will improve as time goes on and things get back to normality.
Basset Hounds are scent hounds and a lot of them tend to move around the ring with their noses on the ground and this can make it very challenging for the handler and the judge. I didn’t find any faults as referred to in the KC ‘breed watch’ for the breed, which was encouraging, I did find some flat feet and poor tail carriages but generally the quality was good.
